My motherboard is an Intel 975xbx sata II running at 3.0gb /sec interface speed. I just bought a new WD Caviar Black hard drive which runs at the higher 6.0gb/sec speed.

Do I need to install a jumper on the new WD h.drive to change the hd's interface speed to match the mobo's lower interface speed(3gb.0) ??.......or will the hard drive automatically adjust itself down to the mobo's slower interface speed?

Thnx for your input :)

SATA III drives are backward

SATA III drives are backward compatible with SATA II controllers. It will work automatically without adjustment when you connect it but it will run at the SATA II throughput.
