I've had terrible experiences
I've had terrible experiences with wireless network devices myself, dropped connections and excessively high amounts of lag, even a wireless N USB 2.0 router I bought from Netgear wasn't anything to brag about... I always find that onboard or PCI NIC's tend to be more responsive for things like web browsing and gaming, so I've given up on wireless networks
I'd rather have an interference free cat5e ethernet cable running down the back of my desk and through a hole in my wall than 1 less cable
So, for that reason I wouldn't recommend a wireless home network, even if it was just for general use unless of course it was a laptop computer, but that's just my view on it, others may have a different opinion on the matter :)
PCI, but as mentioned
PCI, but as mentioned powerline might be an option: http://www.trendnet.com/products/products.asp?cat=65

i went with pci, hopefully it
i went with pci, hopefully it was worth it over usb
I personally think PCIe
I personally think PCIe adapters get better reception than USB but if you get a high-end USB adapter like with dual band wireless N it should preform just as well.

PCI is better, but if there
PCI is better, but if there isn't enough room in your case for it, USB will do just fine.
Or you could look into Powerline. You plug one side into your router and then into your wall, then take the other part and plug it into your wall upstairs and connect it to your PC. It uses your houses wiring as a cable, giving you better than wireless connection (but not as great as a wire directly to your router from your PC). It's a little pricey though.
