I recently purchased the XFX Radeon HD 4770 video card from newegg for $115 US. I havent been able to find a good site to post any reviews of the card. It will be my first review and where else to post other than the one and only Rodney Reynolds webpage? Ive admired rodney from the start, but I have always been to 'camera shy' to actually get to uploading any video reviews.

Overview:

The XFX Radeon HD 4770 has been classified by many users as a mid-range budget card designed specifically around the gaming community. For those who cant afford high-end hardcore/enthusiast cards and want to achive decent frame rates and quality, this is the card.

Equipped with 512MB of 128-bit GDDR5 memory the XFX Radeon HD 4770 is ready to take on any of the latest and greatest games. With specifications like 640 stream procssing units, Direct X 10.1 Suppot, 24x Custom Filter Anti-Aliasing (CFAA), High Performance Anisotropic Filtering, CrossFireX Support, PCI express 2.0, Physics Processing, ATi Avivo HD Video and Diplay Technology, UVD 2 for Blu-Ray and HD Video Playback, DVD Upscaling, HDMI with 7.1 Surround Support, ATi PowerPlay Technology, and last but not least XFX's 5-Star rated customer/tech support makes the XFX Radeon HD 4770 a perfect card for your budget/mid-range system and will perform well without cutting corners.

I bought the card for my own personal budget build which holds the following overall specifications:

Intel Core 2 Duo e4400 @ 2.0GHz
MSi G31P-TM Motherboard
2GB Transcend DDR2 667MHz Memory
Dynex 400W Power Supply
160GB Seagate Barracuda SATA III 7200RPM HDD
LiteOn SuperMultiDrive SATA III DVD-Burner w/Ligthscribe
Rosewill mATX Case
TaiSol OEM CPU Cooler

Unfortunately due to the circumstances, the motherboard purchased for this review had to be RMA'ed back to newegg, and I will be posting performance results as soon as that is processed and shipped back to me.

I took plenty of pictures to show the overall design and cooling performance of this card.

Heres an overall picture of the card; it is a very nice looking card and is sure to compliment your case and motherboard well.

The stock cooler is a small aluminum heatsink, but unfortunately it does not actually make contact with the RAM chips so the memorys overclocking potential is cut some.

I removed the cooler from the card so you can get a better look at the PCB and the cooler/heatsink itself:

A closer shot of the GPU and RAM:

Heres a good shot of the cooler from the bottom to show the heatsink and ducting:

Heres the bracket that actually holds the heatsink in place; it has 4 rubber pads to help keep collaterol pressure on the back of the GPU:

After fully disassembling the card I came to find that the thermal compound applied is somewhat dry and chalky and probably should be replaced to improve heat trasnfer.

I will be uploading more on the performance as soon as my RMA is completely processed!

Thanks!!!

Man, this is old. I remember when I first got this. I completely forgot about this post. For those who may be interested I ended up pairing it with an ASUS M4A785-M Motherboard, and an AMD Athlon II x4 620 Processor.

The card played EVERY game on very high settings with no hiccups at 1920x1080.

I recently sold the rig to pay bills, but it's the best card I've ever owned, hands down.

Nice review. Not too long and straight to the point. That's what I love. Keep it up.

Great review, can't wait to

Great review, can't wait to see how you present the performance results. I've got some terrible news for you though. Dynex power supplies fail when pushed anywhere near their marked output. The actual brand is Huntkey and it's the Green Star series.

Thanks for the comment

Thanks for the comment Rodney.

I was looking for a review area, and I was a little worried that someone would frown upon my postings in the "tech stuff" forum. Ive been watching you on youtube forever, and finally got signed up, its good to hear from everyone and Im excited to be here. On youtube im GarrettBMXes... just fyi :P

but yeah, that would definitley be a great idea! =]
