Download YouTube Videos as MP4

Submitted by Rodney Reynolds on Tue, 04/26/2011 - 11:19

I found this looking for a way to download videos (my own for backup reasons) from YouTube using Google Chrome. Someone else might find it useful.

The script works in:
- Firefox (install Greasemonkey or Scriptish first)
- Google Chrome (no plug-in required, just click "Install")
Opera (no plug-in required, save the script to the User JavaScript folder)
- Safari (install GreaseKit first)
- Internet Explorer (install IE7Pro, download the script, change the extension to .ieuser.js, copy the file to c:\program files\iepro\userscript and enable the script in IE7Pro's settings dialog)

Dear Apple, Please resolve the iPad intermittent wifi issues

Submitted by Rodney Reynolds on Wed, 04/06/2011 - 11:49

Maybe someone from Apple will read this.... (wishful thinking)

Dear Apple,

Can you please address the intermittent iPad wifi issues once and for all. Knowing the care that you put into your products, it really should have been resolved a few days/weeks after it became a problem.
And it's been an issue ever since iOS 4 was released many month ago.

How to calculate Video Card Fillrates and Memory Bandwidth

Submitted by Rodney Reynolds on Fri, 03/25/2011 - 06:57

I'll use the HIS HD 6870 IceQ X TurboX 1GB GDDR5 Video Card in this example. It has a core speed (Core Clock) of 975MHz and the 1GB of GDDR5 256 bit memory (Memory Interface) is 4.6GHz DDR (2300Mhz). It comes with 1120 stream processing units for vertex, pixel and geometry data, 56 texture units (TMU) and 32 raster operators (ROP).

(Core Clock) x (# of ROPs) = Pixel Fill Rate
975MHz x 32 = 31200 Mpixels/s (31.2 Gpixels/s)

(Core Clock) x (# of TMUs) = Texture Fill Rate
975MHz x 56 = 54600 MTexels/s (54.6 GTexels/s)

Time for a celebration? Not really, but it's not bad for a personal tech site. After all, this is no porn site and I'm not a hot female! LOL. That being said, there must the something super sexy about technology and especially tech questions. Because God knows, I answer enough of them, here on the forum and on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/rodneybreynolds

Also, a big thanks to you for registering and being involved on my personal site. It means a lot knowing that there are so many followers out there and people interested in technology from my point of view.

Repair the Gateway XHD3000 30" LCD Monitor

Submitted by Rodney Reynolds on Wed, 01/19/2011 - 17:41

The Gateway XHD3000 30" LCD Monitor offers amazing image quality, probably the best of any 30" LCD monitor display, but most have a logic board chip issue. Some people experience green dots/lines, flickering and blurry images. The good news is that in most cases these issues can be fixed by simply heating the ALTERA BGA chip on the logic board.

YouTube Subscribers Galore

Most are probably not aware that I started www.3dGameMan.com in 1998 as a hobby and shortly after that started doing video reviews (2000). So I was doing video reviews long before YouTube ever existed, a fact that might shock some.

Free Video Converter Software

UPDATE:
I have recently found a completely free video converter, SUPER: http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER

If anyone is looking for free (for non-commercial use) video converter software, you might want to check out Prism Video Converter Software. Supported Video File Formats include; avi, asf, divX, flv, mov, wmv, mpeg, mp4, 3gp, mpeg1, mpeg2, mpeg4, m4v, vob, dvd, ogm, H.264, Xvid, and many more video formats. Note though that the free version is somewhat limited, but should do the job for most.

Red Faction: Guerrilla Issues

Submitted by Rodney Reynolds on Fri, 07/09/2010 - 10:53

I recently started playing Red Faction: Guerrilla and it's a fun game (smashing the heck out of everything), but it has many issues. I thought I'd mention this since maybe others are experiencing problems as well.
